Thanks for this Kate. I plan to write a preliminary piece soon which covers aspects of what you discuss in this paper. Has this been published in a journal yet? If so can you let me know which one? FYI nor sure if you cover Chinese naturalization in the UK but my great grand uncle was an early migrant. Not the earliest but he was unusual because he was supposedly a ‘millionaire’ when he migrated to Brighton. He and his family migrated in 1913.
