Sophie Couchman and I will be speaking as part of the Cangdong Cultural Heritage Month Academic Lecture Series on 23 January 2022. The theme of the workshop is ‘Heritage Conservation and Roots Searching in Home Villages of Overseas Chinese’.
Sophie and I will be in conversation with Canadian historian Henry Yu about our Chinese Australian Hometown Heritage Tour and its social impacts.
Also speaking on Sunday are Selia Tan Jinhua from Wuyi University, and Henry Yu and Denise Fong from the University of British Columbia.

After the pandemic is over will you be organising further cultural tours to the same place?
I was on the 2018 tour and would like to visit my ancestral village (sexual village!?)
Also would you consider arranging tours to see some of the interesting Chinese museums in North America – Vancouver, San Francisco?
I would like to suggest that the organisers do not transcribe the Chinese speech into English or get a better transcriber. The Chinese transcribing was all wrong. I don’t think I have laughed so much in a zoom workshop. Even some of the English was wrong see above. I had to stop reading it otherwise I would have missed parts of the workshop.
